Read every word of Bees defender Hayley West’s thoughts following yesterday’s (Sunday) 0-0 draw away to Lewes FC

West played an instrumental part in the game as the Bees had to withstand lots of Rooks pressure throughout the game. The hosts started on the front foot and saw two goals chalked off in a frantic opening 45 minutes, in which they also struck the crossbar. However, the Bees solidified that threat in the second half and looked to get on the front foot – however a clear cut opportunity wasn’t forthcoming.

The Rooks struck the post late on, but were more than matched by West’s Bees in the second half thanks to a strong, determined and gritty performance. Neither side could get on the scoresheet and we caught up with our number four to get her take on the game.

Her thoughts on the game

It was a tough battle start to finish, both teams battled well. I thought Lewes were on top to start off with, we came out a bit scatty. But as the game went on, we stepped up, 0-0 draw is a good point away from home. Lewes are obviously strong at home so I’m pretty happy with the outcome, could have been better though!

On gaining 4 points from two matches

Yeah, we’re pretty pleased, obviously four points from two games. We need all the points that we can get if we’re going to jump up the table or catch above us, so I’m pretty happy.

On taking some confidence into the trip to Everton

Of course, you always look forward to playing the clubs above you. You are always looking to prove a point individually and as a team to show that we’re here to compete and to show that there is not really isn’t much between the leagues.
