Read every word of Ellie Wilson’s thoughts following our 2-0 FA Women’s Championship victory over City Lionesses. Wilson netted the opener to set her team on the way to three valuable points and bragging rights over their rivals.

On today’s victory

We’re buzzing with that, we have kick-started the year exactly how we wanted to start! At the end of 2019, we needed to get points on the board and we were struggling to do that. So to come out and do what we have today, we’ve done really well.

On her goal and the team move

There was some really good play down the left-hand side, I have been working on that run across and the space just opened up. It was a great ball from Amelia and I saw the space so I just thought I’d hit it early doors. I am really pleased it went in and obviously I’m really pleased that we got off to a positive start so early. It was really good!

On finally getting on the scoresheet

On a personal note, I was buzzing! I played slightly high up the pitch today, so I was pleased with that. But more importantly, we got the early start that we wanted and we kicked on to win the game.

On the defensive side of the performance

Yeah I think we have to put the win down to. Obviously Amelia has got a goal and I’ve got a goal as well but the work-rate across the board today was the key thing. First half we proved that and we were able to maintain that throughout the game, winning those second tackles.

On the win being a confidence boost going into Lewes next weekend

Yeah 100%, we have come here and beat them (City Lionesses) 3-0 before and then 2-0 today. We have to take the momentum from those victories to go on and hopefully beat Lewes next week as well.
